John specializes in helping victims of sexual abuse, trafficking, and harassment. A 20-year lawyer, he has always focused his practice on helping clients recover from harm others caused.
In his signature case to date, John received an Outstanding Trial Lawyer Award in Jane Does v. GirlsDoPorn, where his clients were awarded $20 million in damages. As a result of the case John put together, during the GirlsDoPorn trial, federal authorities indicted the same defendants for criminal sex trafficking. The defendants pleaded guilty and received decades of prison time.
Following the first GirlsDoPorn case, John sued the heavyweight website Pornhub, alleging it violated federal sex trafficking laws by assisting GirlsDoPorn’s marketing. That lawsuit has since been resolved. For these cases and other related lawsuits—coupled with his team’s advocacy for legislative changes and assisting victims with impact statements in the criminal sentencing—John also received a Consumer Advocate of the Year Award.
Just some results from John’s passion for helping the underdog and mistreated include a case against a high school for negligently allowing a student’s sexual battery (resolved for $8,000,000) and confidentially resolved cases against homeowners, educational institutions, individuals in power, and/or employers for allowing sexual malfeasance upon John’s clients.
John’s personal injury and sexual abuse practice follows and benefits from over a decade of business litigation experience, including for unfair business practices and investment fraud, where John honed his investigative skills and mastered “leaving no stone unturned.”
Raised in Baltimore, Maryland, John graduated from Boston College in 2003 with a degree in Economics and later received his law degree from California Western School of Law in 2007, where he was on the Dean’s List and Moot Court Honor’s Board.
John gives every case the same attention he would give a family member or close friend, and his opponents soon learn he is a fierce competitor. In the original GirlsDoPorn case alone, he opposed over 100 motions (including motions to disqualify his team), filed over 30 motions, and took depositions throughout the country. Despite GirlsDoPorn’s many attempts to derail John from taking the case to trial (including an appeal to the California Supreme Court), the case culminated in a 99-day trial with 57 witnesses and over 3,000 exhibits.
Outside the office, John fuels his competitive spirit on the ice and at the gym - he plays ice hockey every week and is a regular at a local Olympic weightlifting gym. Maintaining balance, John enjoys sailing as a member of the San Diego Yacht Club, hot yoga, traveling with family, and playing rock and roll with his wife in their garage band.
